Case Study: Vision Research and Assessment Institute (VRAI) in Irvine
VRAI is a returning client. Our shop did its lobby signs several years ago when it did business under a different name and logo. Our contact at the company reached out to us to handle a rebranding. The twist is that they wanted the sign to resemble a product they had seen in Norcal.
This sign was a mixed-media setup. Our graphic artist evaluated the specs we received, compared them to the client’s rebranding needs, and designed a fully customized signage solution. Our technicians selected a brushed aluminum panel from which we cut the corporate name and logo. Next, we installed an acrylic backer with an imprinted blue color gradient. It shows through the cutouts.
For the lettering underneath the logo, we used one-quarter-inch thick acrylic letters. They give the product a three-dimensional visual appeal. The final step was the sign installations with brushed aluminum standoffs.
Exploring Mixed Media Lobby Signs
Combining two or more materials in the design of a sign is not as unusual as you might think. In fact, we have done it for a long time already. One of the most popular combinations is indoor-rated sign foam and brushed metal faces. It takes advantage of the foam’s thickness – up to three inches – and adds the elegance of the metal. Our technicians easily adjust the display so that it gives the impression you used the more expensive material for the entire project. As such, mixed media is an excellent way to save money.
Another great option is to mix three-dimensional letters with vinyl wall graphics. This is a good way to think outside the box and underscore the aspect of your brand story that focuses on this element. Other combinations to consider are PVC and vinyl, acrylic with metal laminates, and sign foam with printed vinyl overlays.
