The L.A. Sanitation Districts are a returning client. For this latest project, they needed an effective monument sign refacing in Los Angeles.
New Aluminum Dimensional Letters for the L.A. Sanitation Monument Sign
Previously, our team put together new aluminum dimensional lettering for the A.K. Warren Resource Facility and refaced the monument sign in Carson. This project is our third monument sign renewal in Los Angeles. The client needed the update because they changed the facility’s name.
Our technicians first removed the old half-inch-thick aluminum letters. They then patched and painted the structure. While this was happening, we manufactured the new half-inch-thick aluminum lettering at the shop. The last step was the installation. While the original sign read “Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County,” the new lettering says “Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts.”
In addition to changing the facility’s name, the new lettering and paint add a contemporary look to the monument sign.
Considering the Options Between Refacing and Replacing a Monument Sign
Our shop does both. We can put together a new monument sign from the ground up. Conversely, our team routinely refurbishes existing monuments. Which option is right for you?
Refacing a monument sign is less expensive than replacing an entire sign. It involves updating the sign’s letters or graphics while keeping the existing structure. Also, refacing takes less time than a complete replacement. Most importantly, refurbishing an existing monument maintains its original character while giving it a fresh look. On the downside, if the sign has significant damage or deterioration, refacing may not be a viable option. Besides that, the existing structure imposes some design constraints.
Replacing a monument sign gives you complete design, materials, and technology freedom. All components are up to current standards and codes, and the new sign provides a durable and lasting solution. However, a monument replacement is more expensive than refacing and takes longer.
Making the Decision on a Monument Sign Refacing in Los Angeles
Our graphic artist has worked with our technicians to develop three questions to ask yourself when deciding on a monument sign refacing versus a replacement.
- What is the condition of the existing sign? Refacing is an excellent option if the sign structure is still in good shape. If the sign is heavily damaged or outdated, replacement makes more sense.
- Does the current sign meet your branding needs? Sometimes, a complete redesign lets you align with new branding strategies.
- Are there local regulations? Your current sign may be grandfathered into a setting requiring you to meet new restrictions or requirements for sign replacement versus refacing. Decide on which signage setup you prefer.
