Action Sales West, a confectionery broker in Calabasas, California, reached out to us recently because they wanted to display their logo on their front door. Like many business locations, they had a glass door and wanted to make use of the space. From the photo, you can see that we made a vinyl graphic to go directly onto the glass surface.

The great thing about using vinyl for these types of signs is that vinyl is very versatile. We can print onto it, cut lettering and shapes from it, and you can virtually apply it to any smooth surface. Vinyl graphics on glass doors or windows are very common, but interior graphics are also starting to become popular. As drywall isn’t completely smooth like glass, we use car wrap material for wall graphics to ensure durability. Regular vinyl is known to peel off of surfaces if it is not completely smooth. Alternatively, we can apply the graphic onto a backer panel first, and then mount the entire thing onto the wall. This allows us to add frames or mount the graphic spaced off of the wall which can look very nice.

For this sign, we plotted the logo from pre-colored, opaque vinyl. Another option would have been to digitally print the logo and then cut it out, but since this graphic was going to be installed outdoors, the print would start to fade due to sun exposure. The only reason a client would be opposed to using pre-colored vinyl instead of printing would be because we can’t guarantee that the color would match their logo exactly. But we have many different vinyl brands to choose from to come as close as possible, and the longevity of the sign is usually more important to the client than the color being exact.
