Making sure that your patients can find your location is very important, especially if you are an orthopedist who has patients visiting your location frequently. Check out this outdoor sign we made for Orthopedic Institute of Santa Barbara. This is a dimensional letter sign that helps convey what the business specializes in, the name of the doctor, and the company’s logo to help with branding. The client already had an idea of what type of sign they wanted because their designer had already done a site plan and elevations for the sign design and location,
Although the designer had called out 3/4″ aluminum dimensional letters, after speaking with the client, we decided to go with 1/2″ thick acrylic letters. Aluminum is much more expensive compared to acrylic, especially at that thickness. Aluminum and acrylic also end up looking pretty similar after they’ve been painted so we ended up making an acrylic dimensional letter sign. Acrylic is a pretty standard substrate used for signs. It is durable, versatile and can be used for anything from sign faces to thick dimensional letters.
The letters were flat cut from the acrylic and custom painted. The reason we painted the letters instead of using a standard acrylic color was that the designer had called out specific colors. The logo was made from white 1/2″ thick acrylic and 1/8″ painted acrylic because the client wanted the logo to be 3-dimensional also. If the client didn’t care about adding dimension to the logo, we would have used cut vinyl or a digital print instead. Cut vinyl lasts longer, but the colors might not have matched the rest of the sign exactly. Printing it would make sure that the colors matched, but digital prints fade a lot quicker than pre-colored vinyl, especially if the sign is outdoors. When it comes down to these two options, it’s up to the client how they would like to proceed.
The sign looks great, and will definitely make sure that the business is easy to find.
