Westside Property Management was renovating the interior of their Santa Monica office and wanted to put up a logo sign in the reception area. They had decided on a location on the wall behind the reception counter, and installed lights in the ceiling close to the wall to illuminate the wall. As you can see from the photos, this location worked great and the lights look great with the sign we made for them.
Due to the many different layers involved in their logo, we decided to make an acrylic backer lobby sign as opposed to a dimensional letter sign. Making the logo flat instead of 3-dimensional would look cleaner rather than trying to layer the trees, waves, circle, and sun. We normally use a clear acrylic backer panel and apply a laminated digital print of the logo onto the backer panel. However, the client was concerned about the sign having a glare because of the lights and the acrylic and laminate we use have a glossy finish. Because of this, he requested a matte finish for the sign.
The backer panel is 1/4″ thick matte acrylic which looks a little frosted compared to the clear acrylic. We also applied etched vinyl on the face of the panel to create an additional frosted effect. The logo was digitally printed onto 3M vinyl and laminated with Oraguard 210 M, which is a matte finish laminate. The panel was installed with eight gold standoffs around the edges. We normally use silver, but we decided to use gold standoffs for this sign to complement the gold in the logo.
The sign looks great and is sure to make a great impression on anyone visiting the office. The client was very happy with how the sign turned out, and there is no glare caused by the lights.
