We have done a few different signs for Sigue Corporation, one of which was an interior logo sign for their East Los Angeles location. Their wall color is very bright, so they decided to go with a silver tone that wouldn’t clash with the bright wall. We made them an acrylic dimensional letter sign with brushed aluminum laminate faces. Metal is a very popular finish for signs, however, they can be expensive and not every business has a large budget for a lobby sign. This is why we used acrylic with a metal laminate instead of solid metal.
Acrylic comes in many standard colors, and metal laminates are also available in many different metal types and finishes. The main issue with using a metal laminate instead of metal is that you can see the acrylic color from the side. This is usually not an issue to most customers and as you can see from the photos, it is unnoticeable if you use black acrylic. But if we do have a client that wants the sides to look metallic also, we can paint the sides silver to match the face. On the other hand, some clients are specifically looking for the layered acrylic and metal look and will get clear acrylic or white acrylic as a base and have it laminated with metal.
Although brushed aluminum is probably the most popular metal finish, we can also offer bronze, copper, brass, stainless steel, and many different colors of aluminum. Aluminum is not only the least expensive, but it can also be anodized different colors which is another reason why it is a popular metal choice.
