Azizian Trust was interested in updating the outdoor signage of their shopping center and reached out to us after finding us online. After we finished the monument sign refurbishment, we removed four of the existing box signs that were on the storefronts and took them back to our shop to be repaired. The box signs had been up for a while and had incurred some damage over the years. Three of them were still salvageable so we replaced some of the retainers with new ones. The fourth box sign was too damaged for repair so we discarded of it and made a brand new one.

Box signs are very popular for multi-tenant shopping centers because the faces can be replaced easily with new information, and you do not need a sign permit to replace the face on an existing box sign. A new sign face is also usually cheaper than a new illuminated sign. We did not need to permit the new box sign we made because we were just replacing the existing sign and the new one we made was identical to the existing one. If we were to modify the sign design in any way like changing the shape or making it larger, a sign permit would have been necessary.

Along with replacing the retainers, we made new faces for the signs. The faces are made from Tuf Glas that is cut to size and translucent vinyl. Tuf Glas is an impact modified acrylic that we use for most of our sign faces because it is more durable than acrylic, and it comes in a large roll so we can make larger sign faces without having to have a seam or multiple seams. We try to use pre-colored translucent vinyl as much as possible as opposed to digitally printing artwork because it lasts much longer and is more cost effective. As you can see from the photos, the artwork on these sign faces consisted of a minimum number of colors and used solid lines that were easy to plot from vinyl so we were able to use exclusively pre-colored translucent vinyl for these signs. If a logo or artwork has a gradient or many different colors, we digitally print it as it will be easier for production and less expensive than ordering multiple different colors of vinyl.
