Rolling Hills United Methodist Church and Preschool were remodeling and adding a few additions to the building. They were working with Del Amo Construction who contracted us for the signage that was needed for the project. We made two exterior signs, 44 room identification signs, 5 exit/exit route signs, 2 sets each of women and men’s restroom signs, 6 unisex restroom signs, 17 maximum occupancy signs, and 8 room divider occupancy signs in total.
For the ADA signs to be up to code, the design and sign placement matter which is why we handle the project from beginning to end to make sure that the signs will pass inspection. Just a few of the characteristics that make the signs ADA complaint are the Braille and raised copy for the visually impaired. We use grade II Braille and 1/32″ tactile copy with a code-approved font. The colors are customizable as long as they are non-glare, and the lettering contrasts with the background color. In this case, we used a green that would match the church’s logo and used white lettering because it contrasted well with the dark green color.
The exterior signs were acrylic with different colors of cut vinyl. We used 3/8″ thick white acrylic and Oracal 751 vinyl. The church logo is a 60″ diameter circle so we had to make it in two parts. Acrylic sheets only come in 48″ x 60″ so we made two panels that are 30″ x 60″ half circles. We used four different green vinyl colors and layered them in certain areas to create the logo. The preschool logo was 47″ diameter so we were able to make it as one large piece. This one used six different colors of vinyl. Both signs took a lot of time because the different colors and layers of vinyl had to be laid by hand. The lettering was also made of 3/8″ acrylic but it was painted the same Pantone color as the ADA signs.
