We made two new channel letter signs for Arete Associates because they needed to update their signage with their new logo. Their existing signs were there before we had started working with them. A couple of years back we refurbished their existing signs and this time they were taken down to be replaced. The existing signs were installed on a raceway because there wasn’t electricity access behind where the sign was going. The client asked us about this to see if there was a way we could install the sign without a visible raceway. We noticed that they had a parapet wall so we asked them to measure the height of the parapet. We were glad to find that there was enough space to put a behind-the-wall raceway if we moved the signs up a little bit.
The signs we made are front-lit channel letter signs so the light comes out of the faces of the letters. To get as close as possible to their logo colors, we had the client choose a translucent vinyl color for “Arete” that we laid on white acrylic. The logo has a gradient so we digitally printed the colors onto translucent vinyl and laid it on Tuf Glas. We used Tuf Glas instead of acrylic for the logo due to its size. The logo is 50″ x 54″ which is larger than we can get a standard sheet of acrylic for. Using two pieces of acrylic would not look good so we used Tuf Glas which is a polycarbonate that comes in large rolls so it is perfect for larger sign faces like this one.
The cans of the channel letters were made from aluminum and the faces are attached using trim cap. The channel letters were installed directly onto the wall and wired to the raceway that we installed on the other side of the wall.
