Earlier this week we posted about some building signs we did for Watermark Apartments. Along with exterior signage, we also did interior signage which included ADA signs. Out of all of the required ADA signage, unit numbers have the most room for customization. These unit number signs were made with non-glare clear acrylic that was subsurface painted, which means that the sign was painted on the back side so the color comes through the clear acrylic. Each sign has tactile unit numbers and Braille. Each set of unit number signs were painted to match the floor color so there were a total of six different paint colors used. The signs are mounted with very high bonding (VHB) tape and silicone.
Since the wall is already the desired color for the sign, you may ask why we didn’t just make the signs clear so the color can show through. This is because the signs need to be mounted in some way, and if the signs are clear, you can see what was used to mount the sign which in this case would be the VHB tape and silicone. Even if we used clear tape, you can still see it through the acrylic so we opted to paint each of the signs. Sometimes getting the right look can take additional work, but we are willing to work with you to make sure that your signs come out exactly the way you envisioned them.
