Check out these photos of a lobby sign we made for an orthodontist’s office in Encino. Orthodontics LA has two locations, one in Glendale and one in Encino. They were looking for a sign company to help them with their exterior and interior signage for their Encino location, and the first sign they wanted to get done was the lobby sign.

We used 1/2″ white acrylic for these signs because the client wanted their logo to be dimensional, and the entire sign was originally going to be white. During proofing, they decided to make the bar green, which we just routed from 1/2″ white acrylic and painted. Acrylic comes in several standard colors so if a client is not particular about the shade or just wants black or white, production is pretty simple. The letters are routed from the acrylic, and either studs or VHB is applied to the back depending on how we’re going to mount the letters. If the letters need to be a specific color, we just need the client to provide us with the paint color and we can make the sign whatever color they want.

This sign was stud mounted into the wall. If we’re working with letters that are very thin, we might mount them with VHB, but for the most part, we stud mount for durability, If the sign is going to be installed outside, we always stud mount but for interior signs, it’s not as strict because interior signs don’t need to be permitted. The client was considering having the letters mounted with spacers so, during installation, we brought spacers so he could see how the letters would look with and without spacers. Sometimes spacers can help add some dimension to the sign, but if the stoke of the letters is too thin, it could end up not looking good because you can see the spacers easily. In the end, we ended up installing the sign without spacers.
