Chello Persian Cafe was looking for an interior sign for their restaurant after we were close to finishing up their exterior signage. They wanted to display their logo in specific colors so we made them a painted acrylic dimensional letter sign. As you can see from the photos, this sign was installed above the entryway to the kitchen.
The initial design called for an all-black logo so we were going to flat-cut the letters from 1/4″ black acrylic. Acrylic comes in black so it is fairly easy to make as all we would need to do is route the logo from the acrylic and install them. As this is an interior sign and 1/4″ acrylic letters are not too heavy, they were going to be mounted with VHB and silicone. If the letters are heavier or if it’s an exterior sign, we stud mount them which requires more time for both production and installation because the back of the letters need to be tapped with studs after they’re painted, and during installation, we need to drill holes into the wall, fill the holes with silicone, and push the studs into the wall. When using VHB and silicone, we apply VHB and silicone to the back of the letters and adhere them to the wall. The VHB is used to hold the letters up while the silicone dries.
During proofing, the client decided that they wanted the logo to be yellow and orange so we added custom paint to the black acrylic letters. Painting was the best option because the client was looking for solid colors, and wanted very specific colors. We kept the material the same because it is easy to just paint acrylic colors whatever color you want them to be, regardless of the base acrylic color.
