DS Honda, a construction company who was doing work for El Camino Real High School’s North Campus, reached out to us for signage that was needed for the school. We have finished the installation for the interior signs and are currently working on the exterior sign. The interior signs consisted of close to thirty room identification signs. The signs were made from non-glare clear acrylic that was subsurface painted and had tactile copy.
The purpose of room identification signs is to be easy to read for all people which is why we use non-glare acrylic to make sure that whatever is on the sign can be read from all angles, and the tactile copy helps those with vision impairment read the sign.
The acrylic was subsurface painted which means that if you are looking at the front of the sign, the backside of the acrylic is painted. We do this commonly with clear acrylic so you can still see the color of the paint but it’s behind the texture of the acrylic. If we painted the front, you would just see the solid paint color. In the first rendition of designs, the two colors used in the signs were a sand color and blue. After seeing renderings of how the sign would look, they decided to change it. We recommended using brushed aluminum paint because it goes with almost every color. We updated the renderings to reflect this new color scheme and they were very happy with how it looked and finalized the design after making sure that all of the wording on the signs was what they wanted to move forward with.
The Fire Alarm Control Panel sign was the only one that looked different from the other signs and that is because we needed to make sure it was bold and easy to spot in case of emergencies. This sign also uses non-glare acrylic.
