All exterior signs need to be permitted, and depending on the city there are different regulations. Brighton Salons is a high-end hair salon in Beverly Hills, California. Putting up a building sign for a business in Beverly Hills isn’t always simple because of how upscale the city is. The owner wanted to put up a sign on the building and got some inspiration from other signs in the area for her sign design. She measured the space in between the two large windows where she wanted the sign to go and we were able to provide a quote for her based on the measurements and her logo file.

The first step of proofing is to make sure that the client is happy with the sign design while making sure that it fits the city requirements. The owner only had one design revision which was to add more space on the backer panel above and below the logo. Once she and the landlord signed off on the proof, we were ready to go to the city to pull the permit. Although we had designed the sign within city guidelines, we are not always guaranteed to be able to pull the permit on the spot, especially if that city is particular about signage.

We submitted the proofs to the City of Beverly Hills, and they advised us that we needed to have more space on either side of the sign. This is an easy adjustment, however, after we revise the design we need signatures from the client and the landlord again on the new proofs, and then we need to make another trip to the city to apply for the permit again. Fortunately, this time the sign was approved by the city and we were able to start manufacturing on the sign you see pictured here. The new sign looks great, and the high-end look suits our high-end client.
