Dimensional letters are 3-dimensional letter signs that are not internally illuminated. Some landlords may require channel letters, but a light up sign is not always necessary. Child Development Institute needed exterior signage for their new location so we made them a main entrance sign, a sign for their front wall, and address numbers. Our dimensional letters are made by routing characters from a flat sheet of material such as acrylic or aluminum. For this sign, we used acrylic because the sign was either going to be painted or black. We started with 1/2″ thick sheets of black acrylic, routed the letters and logos, and painted the pieces that needed to be a specific color. The logo was painted their logo color and the address numbers were painted a gold color.
The letters and logos are then tapped with studs for installation. Mounting with adhesives only works when installing on a flat surface, and exterior signs need to be stud mounted per city guidelines so all of these signs were stud mounted. As you can see from the photos, adhesives would not work for a wall like the one that the address numbers were installed onto anyway, studs would be required.
