Pole signs and cabinet signs can be hard to get permitted, especially on Ventura Blvd., but once you have them up, the maintenance can be easy as long as you have interchangeable faces. This was the case for Vantage Point Inn in Woodland Hills, California that needed new sign faces for two double-sided pole signs and one cabinet sign that was mounted onto the exterior wall. The illuminated signs all have cans that hold the sign faces that can be changed out easily. New sign faces do not need a new permit because you are changing the face, not the actual sign.
We also performed an LED conversion for all of the signs. LED is the standard now in the signage industry for lighted signs, but some older signs may still have fluorescent or neon lighting. LED is much more energy-efficient so if you are going to be getting new sign faces, it is a good idea to convert to LEDs while you’re at it.
The sign faces themselves were made from Tuf Glas which is a polycarbonate that comes in large rolls. It is more expensive than acrylic but it is more durable, and there is no size limitation so we can create large sign faces without any seams. The logo was made from translucent vinyl. We use translucent vinyl as opposed to opaque vinyl so the color shows through at nighttime when the sign faces are backlit. There is a size limitation to the width of the rolls that vinyl comes in so there are small seams on the sign faces. If a seam is unavoidable, we try to place them strategically so they are unnoticeable. For example, the seam on the rectangular sign faces is hidden in one of the corners. For the circles, the seams are in the center of the circle because that is the best placement for the shape.
