We had the chance to work with Longwood at Oakmont, a continued-care retirement community, to create a system that eased navigation through their beautiful property. We were part of the solution as we updated, fabricated, and installed functional wayfinding, parking, and informational post and panel signs to identify and direct traffic to specific buildings.

Longwood at Oakmont is an accredited CARF senior retirement community focused on the age-friendly initiative in and around the city of Pittsburgh where they help the elderly community age positively. Equipped with a caring staff and personalized programs, Longwood provides its residents with the highest quality of living and is ranked in the top 11% of senior facilities in the United States.

The photos throughout this article show the multiple directional and wayfinding signs installed around the Longwood community. Included are several examples of the post and panel signs we created. Check out the full project by visiting our Flickr!

We wanted to ensure our client’s needs were met so we kept thorough communication throughout the project. To begin drafting our proposal, we received original documents of Longwood’s layout of the community from their designers. From there, our communication centered around pricing, placement, and a timeline.

After removing and refurbishing old signs, and fabricating additional signage, we moved onto a three-phase installation process. All the new signs had routed aluminum faces with printed vinyl to create a cohesive design. A good number of the signs that we installed were parking signs, which measured to be about 18”X13”. The post and panel building identifiers measured to be about 96”X24”, and the remaining signs were roughly 42”X20” posted around various intersections and parking lots. Along with the wayfinding signage, we refaced Longwood’s two-sided monument sign with new materials and updated graphics.

Longwood was so excited about their new signage and that we were able to help them find the right customizations and graphics to match their location, aesthetic, and brand. They were happy from the very beginning with our creative designs and great communication.
