IMG_6403Spark Signs was asked to provide signage solutions for UPMC’s new concept, UPMC MyHealth@Work Kiosks. The kiosks serve the health needs of UPMC employees at specific hospitals throughout western and central Pennsylvania. The project included acrylic backsplashes, projecting signs, posters and frames, and literature racks to help brand the new kiosk rooms.

The photos show the finished kiosks with acrylic backsplashes which showcase UPMC’s brand and colors. Also included are examples of the projecting signs installed above the kiosk’s doorway and posters hung within the kiosk rooms.

A world-renowned health care provider and insurer, Pittsburgh-based UPMC is inventing new models of accountable, cost-effective, patient-centered care. It provides more than $900 million a year in benefits to its communities, including more care to the region’s most vulnerable citizens than any other health care institution. As Pennsylvania’s largest nongovernmental employer, with more than 80,000 employees, UPMC is comprised of more than 30 hospitals, more than 600 doctors’ offices, and outpatient sites, an international division and an enterprises division.

UPMC retrofitted existing rooms within hospitals and needed branded colors and informational pieces to augment the rooms. We consulted with our client extensively before we came up with the specific solution of the acrylic backsplashes that were placed behind the actual kiosks. To help bring the rooms to life we offered several options for the materials, and in one case we utilized high quality printed vinyl due to the uniqueness of the kiosk room.

IMG_6398Our team needed to move quickly to fabricate and install the signs in a short window of time at the multiple hospitals. The key component in each kiosk was the acrylic backsplash. Our idea was to print the 2nd surface, or the backside, of the ¼” clear acrylic and stand it off the wall 1” with silver standoff hardware. There were two advantages to printed on the backside: the effect of the color shining through the acrylic and the prevention of scratching or damage to the graphics. Placing the acrylics behind the kiosks provided an interesting and colorful backdrop.

To highlight the kiosk rooms, we placed projecting signs above the doorways outside the rooms. We also added posters to the inside walls and literature racks. The graphics placed in the projecting signs matched the graphics within the kiosk rooms and allowed easy identification for the UPMC employees from both directions of the hallways. The printed 24”X36” posters and frames spoke of the health programs available to UPMC employees. Lastly, we sourced handsome literature racks that fit perfectly in these rooms.

Our client was very pleased with the ideas we shared with them and our overall attention to detail. Moreover, we showed how quickly we can execute the various stages—concept, proof, fabrication, and installation—to accomplish the project.
