We do an incredible amount of work for other sign companies. Local and national, we work with them all. One of our long term customers has the national contract with Champs Sports so when they decide to open a new store, we get the business. When they contacted us about the install, we had only done repair work for the company. Now they needed us to take over the installations in our area. The request was simple – please install the signs according to the plan and in accordance with normal construction guidelines. Seems simple, but given the past few installers that they worked with, this was a big change.
We started by reviewing the sign design package that our customer forwarded to us. One of the nice things about working on multiple projects is that our customer knows the quality work that we do. They sent us the package and I made an appointment with the city to review the package and compare it to the current municipal sign code. In this district, because the signs face the interior of the mall, the municipality didn’t require a sign permit. We proceeded to approve the package and request the signs be placed into production. After a number of weeks, the signs were delivered. Now we got busy. We scheduled a walk through the new store as the install date was only a week away. We noticed that the face of the store wasn’t in place and none of the walls were finished. This might make the installation of the signs a little tough. We went back to our customer and requested a new install date. We were pushed out three weeks. Not a problem but guess where we were in two weeks – yup, walking the store.
This time the walls were complete as was the face of the store. Our installers showed up the following morning to install the package. It took two guys the better part of two days to install all of the individual letters behind the cash counter, lift the large entrance sign above the door and secure it and install all of the wall graphics.
