We heard recently from a great Vietnamese restaurant in Modesto called Saigon One. The building sign was looking worn. They asked if we could tidy it up a bit. We said that was no problem and to leave it to us. For a small fee, we were able to return the sign to “as new” condition.

shows, the final results were impressive. The sign displays three different fonts and colors that combine to stunning visual effect. The existing grid mounting of the sign was in good shape and didn’t need any repair.

Once we had the design from the client, we were able to create a new removable routed sign face at our workshop. We fashioned the can from aluminum, painting it white to match the sign. The size of the can was 30 ⅙” x 132 ⅛”, and this was backed with a white acrylic face, ⅛” thick. The letters along the bottom, ‘Vietnamese Fusion,’ were formed by black vinyl backing. The larger letters, ‘SAIGON ONE’ were printed out with durable UV-resistant red and blue inks. Using two different fonts on the same line was no problem. Once the text was added, the removable acrylic face was fitted to the can with 1” retainers.
The words, ‘Vietnamese Fusion’ look black during the day and white at night. We achieved this effect by using 3M black perforated vinyl behind white vinyl, and illuminating it with white LED light. It’s a neat trick that impresses customers; they figure that if the sign above the doors is innovative, the dishes served inside must be too. This kind of creative signage wins new customers, and great food gets them returning week after week.
