In April we were contacted by West Haven Baptist Church in Tonganoxie, KS. West Haven is a very prominent Baptist Church that offers a lot of amenities for their visitors and West Haven is known to provide a lot of benefits to the community of Tonganoxie as well.

West Haven’s original configuration is a large monument sign (120”x72”) that is double-sided containing fluorescent lamps for illumination. The creative folks at West Haven expressed their interest in changing the complete design of this monument sign because the existing design contained text that was small and very hard to read by passersby. West Haven wanted their logos to be larger, lamps switched to LED’s, less information on the sign to make it less “busy”, and their address to be displayed on the brick base where we used 8” aluminum letters, 2” stud posts, and ½” spacers. This new design achieves the goal of maximizing the surface area of the sign’s faces to effectively promote West Haven’s brand identity.

After everyone agreed on the new design, we quickly got to work recreating this monument sign. The new large acrylic faces enhanced West Haven’s logo as we made the logo 20 percent larger and more centered on the sign face, which will assist in promoting West Haven’s brand more effectively. We then eliminated the twelve fluorescent lamps and replaced with state-of-the-art LED technology that would illuminate 10 times brighter, eliminate waste of replacing lamps saving time and money, and significantly reduce West Haven’s electricity demand also saving money. On top of this, we installed a new sign timer to their exiting fuse box which will now allow West Haven to have the sign lit during the night and off during the day. Originally, the sign was manually turned on and off or was just left on all day and night. Another major benefit of this design was using the location’s address and installing the address directly on the brick base. This new idea also takes full advantage of the monuments sign space. The sign’s original design contained West Haven’s phone number too. On the new design we removed the phone number to maximize space.

In today’s digital world the need for too much information on your outdoor signage is unnecessary. First, if your sign is too “busy”, people driving past your business cannot accurately grab the important information in time. Your monument sign should prominently display your brand image, your identity. When considering monument signs, one needs to think about the true marketing message. What is it you are trying to say when someone gets 5-10 seconds to visualize your sign? Are your letters and logo(s) large enough to see from the distance to the road?  Is your monument sign better utilized as way finding? Do you need your website address? All of these questions are relevant for all businesses not just religious organizations as we discussed in this article.

Here at Prairie Fire Signs we specialize in consulting with you first, so we can accurately understand your marketing message in order to help you position your brand. Please give us a call or request more information so we can get you noticed today!
