When starting a new business it is important to stand out. There are many things to take into consideration while developing and building your storefront. One of the most important decisions you will need to make is what type of sign to use to display your company name and logo.
The owner of the new Domino’s location in Bloomfield, CT reached out to us to create a pair of signs for their corner space within the building. While planning for this project we completed a site visit to determine what accommodations needed to considered to ensure that his project could be completed properly.
Planning To Make Your Design Successful
There are always details to consider while planning a new sign, even if the sign seems straightforward at the beginning. This particular location had a foam stucco finish for the building facade. This can be a simple and cost effective method for creating a uniform look to the building. Unfortunately, a foam stucco finish is not capable of supporting the weight of signage on it’s own. To remedy this, a backer board is used to spread the load of the sign and provide the mounting hardware a solid surface to adhere to.
For this location, the forward facing sign had an existing backer board, however the logo sign on the side of the building did not. As part of the installation a backer board was added to the area behind the second sign. This was a necessary step to ensure that the sign was properly mounted and secure.
Lighting the Way
The great thing about channel letters of this nature is the ability to illuminate them so they are easily visible at night. One benefit to Channel Letters is their naturally high contrast at night that occurs because only the only part that is illuminated is the letter itself. This is an advantage over Light Box signs that illuminate the entire face of the sign and use vinyl to create shapes and letters. This increases visibility at a distance, and creates a clean look that many clients prefer.
Some channel letter applications require the use of a raceway behind the letters. This raceway houses the power supplies and carries the wiring to the individual letters while also being used as a frame to mount the letters. A raceway can be used to reduce the complexity of the installation process, but is sometimes necessary if there is no access inside the building facade to allow for running wires and making electrical connections connections.
