Recently, we bought a Laguna Laser Cutter. Our technicians use it side-by-side with our CNC Router. We invested in the additional technology because there are some things that the laser cutter can accomplish that the router cannot do as well.
Laser Cutter vs. CNC Router
The laser cutter uses a high-powered laser beam to cut, engrave, or etch materials like aluminum, acrylic, and more. It is precise and can cut intricate designs quickly. It is excellent for detailed work and can quickly cut through thin materials.
The CNC router is a computer-controlled machine that uses a spinning router bit to cut, carve, or engrave materials. It is suitable for cutting thicker and denser materials, like plastics and most metals. While it achieved highly detailed cuts, it is less precise than a laser cutter.
We like having both machines available for custom 3D lobby logo sign fabrication. The laser cutter is ideal for manufacturing smaller letters for a lobby sign. It has such a small cut line that it is more precise on inside cuts, whereas the router’s 1/8” cutting bit would compromise some of the crisp features.
