When considering the base for a sign or graphic, polystyrene comes in as a great alternative to poster board, PVC or even paper. Polystyrene is a thin plastic available in three thicknesses; .020, .030 and .040. The larger the number, the thicker it is. Polystyrene can be used in a variety of applications. The thinner option, .020, is great for posters, displays and even as an alternative to poster board.
By applying laminated vinyl to both sides, polystyrene can be quite rigid. Recently Diamond Visual Communications produced table placards by laminating both sides of .030 polystyrene. The prior method used by our customer incorporated laminating poster board. Our advice was the .030 polystyrene with laminated printed vinyl on both sides. The laminate will allow these placards to last a long time, plus cleaning is easy.
The print setup incorporated having one side produced followed by the second. Diamond Visual Communications setup the print so the appropriate amount of vinyl and laminate was used. We applied the first sides to the polystyrene. After the placards were cut, the second sides were cut and applied. Our Hewlett Packard Latex 360 printer enabled us to print then laminate the placards within minutes. Diamond Visual Communications also used the laminator to perfectly apply the laminated vinyl to the polystyrene. Diamond Visual Communications could assist Our customer had a need that Diamond Visual Communications easily fulfilled on time and within budget. This is another example of how Diamond Visual Communications helps clients with the best means to market, brand and convey information.
With another opportunity, Diamond Visual Communications created posters for outdoor use within poster frames. By using a flatbed printer, Diamond Visual Communications printed direct to the polystyrene. This method created crisp color that will last a long time outdoors. The flatbed printer has ultraviolet curing reducing the time to wait for ink to dry.
By using the flatbed printer, Diamond Visual Communications can produce posters from 24 inches by 24 inches up to 4 feet by 8 feet. Thinner polystyrene can be rolled after print allowing for easy transportation. Since polystyrene is a thin PVC with excellent color capabilities and durability, it is an excellent alternative to paper.
