Improving Commercial Curb Appeal with LED Conversions
One of the things that give California strip malls a tired look is the presence of faded, partially illuminated signage. This was the case at the property the client recently took over in the OC. It had a pylon sign that exemplified this impression.

- Several fluorescent lamps were out.
- Yellowing and cracked tenant panels.
It was clear that this sign needed a serious overhaul. However, the client wanted to explore saving money by saving the signage and only upgrading it rather than replacing the entire setup.

You do not have to give up your old signs. No matter how hopeless a pylon, monument, or lightbox cabinet might look, give our technicians a chance to see if we can refurbish the product before you decide on replacing it. For this project, our team first verified that the pylon’s structure was in good shape.
Next, we used 3M cut translucent vinyl for two of the tenants as a panel replacement. We did a color-white-color sandwich print for the other tenant to capture all the brand’s details. It ensured that the color would not wash out when the LEDs went on. Our new HP700w with white ink is one of the few sign printers that can do that type of print.
After painting the cabinet’s structure in a vibrant red tone, our technicians added LED tube lamps to replace the aged fluorescent lighting. LEDs are less expensive to operate and much cheaper to maintain in the long run. Best of all, they do not suddenly quit. With the new lamps in place, we installed the new sign faces.
Continuing the Upgrade of the Shopping Center
After this project, Milan Capital intends to continue the upgrade of the venue. Next up will be a replacement of the channel letter signs above each tenant suite. This step shows the property management group’s commitment toward upgrading and updating the smaller shopping centers the OC is known for. Moreover, it underscores the power of signage in this undertaking.
